10 Past WrestleMania Main Events Worse Than Reigns Vs. Triple H
6. Triple H Vs. Chris Jericho - WrestleMania X-8
The main event between Triple H and Chris Jericho, which headlined WrestleMania X-8 in 2002, is one of the biggest blunders in WWE history. What should have been a match that played on the real life animosity that existed between WWE Undisputed champion Jericho and The Game was, instead, the culmination of a soap opera angle involving Stephanie McMahon. In fact, it was The Billion Dollar Princess who actually found herself feuding with The Cerebral Assassin. Jericho was shoved to the background, left to literally clean up dog s*** despite being the top champion in the company. He was humiliated throughout the course of the program and the result was a lack of heat the manifested itself on the grandest stage imaginable. The only time the crowd really popped for anything in the match was when Triple H Pedigreed Stephanie, reaffirming what the match was really about. No matter how hard Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler put over Triple H's journey back to WWE and the top of the proverbial mountain, it was hard to feel sympathy for a guy flexing his political muscles so often behind the scenes. With Jericho's heat killed, Triple H as an ineffective babyface and Stephanie as the only performer truly over in the entire scenario, the main event was dead in the water before any of the performers stepped through the curtain.
