10 Past WrestleMania Main Events Worse Than Reigns Vs. Triple H

4. Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter - WrestleMania VII

As 1991 arrived, most fans were excited over the idea of a Hulk Hogan-Ultimate Warrior rematch in the main event of WrestleMania VII. The two industry giants had wowed the wrestling world with a classic bout the previous year and a second bout between them would allow The Hulkster to get his win back and, in the process, set up an even bigger rubber match in the future. Then Desert Storm happened and real life found its way to sports-entertainment. Sgt. Slaughter was turned heel and expressed his support for Saddam Hussein, an Iraqi sympathizer disgusted by the America he lived in. He was brilliant in the role, but well past his prime. Even after beating Warrior at Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship and cashing his ticket to The Showcase of the Immortals, no one really bought him in that role. What they saw in Slaughter was not this great wrestling heel but, rather, another foreign fanatic set up to be taken down by real American hero Hulk Hogan. And that is exactly what happened, to the surprise and shock of absolutely no one.
