10 Most Patriotic American WWE Stars Ever

6. Lex Luger

WWE.comWWE.comWhen Hulk Hogan left WWE in 1993, they needed somebody to replace him. Nobody really could because Hogan's star power was unmatched at the time, but Vince McMahon decided to turn Lex Luger from a heel to a babyface and make him a star by turning into the All American hero. The biggest moment for Luger happened on July 4, 1993 as Yokozuna issued a bodyslam challenge on the USS Intrepid. There were dozens of guys that showed up to try to slam him, but none of them could do it. Luger made his entrance via helicopter, then confronted Yokozuna and slammed him. The crowd went wild. WWE did a fantastic job of playing this up like a huge deal. It's one of those things I'll never forget because the presentation of it was so well done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v-vSfCAF0Y Lex went on to ride the "Lex Express" bus across America on the road to SummerSlam that year. He didn't beat Yoko for the WWE Title (the countout win was a bizarre choice) and never did become WWE Champion, but that year or so with him as Mr. America was definitely the highlight of his career in WWE.
