10 Pay-Per-Views WWE Must Bring Back For Brand Split 2016

7. Starrcade

Starrcade 1996

Starrcade was WWE’s version of WrestleMania. The show aired 18 times, and ended in 2000 after suffering a painful and embarrassing death. I’m sorry, but you can’t go from Harley Race vs. Ric Flair to Sid Vicious vs. Scott Steiner and not say that is a really sad way to go out. It’s a little hard not to weep for the corpse of Starrcade.

Luckily, the name of the pay-per-view still has some goodwill attached to it (ignoring the never ending stink of the Kevin Nash/Goldberg cattle prod incident), and is certainly more interesting than a lot of WWE’s off-brand names like Roadblock, Battleground, Battleblock, or Payback. One of those may not have happened yet, but probably will soon.

Starrcade should be pushed as one of the separate brand’s biggest solo show of the year, and maybe put a numbering system in place to make it feel more historic. Oh yeah, Vince doesn’t like high numbers, it makes it sound old. Still, it would be a nice gesture to long-time fans to bring back the event.

And the only reason Starrcade doesn’t rank higher on this list, is that if WWE isn’t going to bring it back as a major show, then it’s best not to do it at all.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
