If the previous story didn't feel all that enthralling, there's a less expected way to spin a similar narrative. One potential barrier to Dillinger's success on the blue brand is the presence of an even greater underdog fan favourite – the former El Generico. Sami Zayn's pluck and courage hasn't been enough to propel him to main roster glory yet, and this should serve as a warning to Dillinger, who fits a similar mould.

Despite how well he's got over as a lovable babyface, it should be noted that Tye Dillinger has spent much of his developmental and indie career as a heel, and the role wouldn't be a stranger to him. Turning on Sami Zayn is a surefire way to get yourself booed, even for a face as popular as Dillinger. They can't (or at least shouldn't) both play the same part, and given that their 'never say never' attitudes and outpourings of fan support haven't particularly brought much success to either man, something's got to give.

A Dillinger-Zayn match would no doubt be fantastic, and it would be refreshing to watch Sami in a singles match where his opponent isn't towering over him. Fast, fluid matches are in relatively short supply in current WWE programming, and it's something that both men excel at. All that's needed is for Dillinger to grow sick of being a fan favourite and turn on one of the few superstars who's more of one than he is.
