9. Ted DiBiase Joins (August 26th, 1996)
The addition of Ted DiBiase to the nWo was an interesting concept, right from the start. Even though he was nearly three years removed from his in-ring retirement, he was still one of the most recognizable faces in the business. Playing off of his "Million Dollar Man" gimmick, DiBiase was the "money man" behind the nWo, with the story basically being that he was the one bankrolling the entire thing. When people "jumped" from WCW to the nWo, it was DiBiase's money that helped them make that decision. That brought some nice storyline clarity at a time in the business when people would seemingly turn every other week, for no apparent reason whatsoever. Instead of no reason, WCW had guys turning with the allure of larger checks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulzNHDs8g8s Just seeing DiBiase, who everyone saw as a "WWF Guy", in WCW was cool enough as it was. Fans had grown up watching him in the WWF for the last decade, and seeing him show up with the WWF's main competition was buzzworthy all by itself. He would go on to become yet another piece of the nWo puzzle that would be forgotten and eventually discarded, but when he showed up, it looked like something special.
