Safe to say that Seth Rollins’ plans for Fastlane didn’t quite work out as intended.

After re-injuring his knee the night after the Royal Rumble, Rollins’ only pre-Fastlane appearance was his in-ring interview segment on Raw this past week. But despite the limited airtime, the writers still managed to deliver a vital character development that essentially completes a stuttering face turn that half-heartedly began back in May 2016.

When he initially returned at Extreme Rules, Rollins was dubbed a good guy, but for all intents and purposes, his character was hardly any different to the one he was portraying before. As such, his face turn hadn’t been particularly effective - until that promo on Raw this past week.

During the promo, Rollins showed remorse over the way he used to be, even going as far as suggesting he may have deserved his bad luck with injuries. That admission of guilt was a key turning point in which he finally realised the error of his ways and a crucial realisation that Rollins had to come to in order to become a more likeable hero.

Sure, the injury was bad news, but at least that nuanced character development salvaged something positive from the situation.
