If you aren't familiar with the name Gran Metalik, don't feel bad about it. The name is a new one, and the man performing under the moniker may be better known by a different name, that being Máscara Dorada.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Metalik is the biggest lucha libre star taking part in the CWC and as such should be treated as a threat to go far.

Dorada has spent most of 2016 rebuilding his career somewhat after a disappointing excursion from home promotion CMLL to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Surprisingly, NJPW seemingly had no idea what to do with the man. He challenged Kenny Omega for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, but was unsuccessful. He entered the Best of the Super Juniors and finished third in his block.

Dorada impressed whenever given an opportunity, however, and you can expect some fireworks from the Boy Wonder. I'd expect him to make the final eight, at the very least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
