WWE isn’t going to make this mistake again, surely? Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble back in 2015 to a chorus of boos, becoming the only man to get The Rock booed in recent memory. The 2016 Rumble was built around Reigns, The Big Dog entering at number one and lasting all the way until the end. The crowd were thrilled when Reigns was eliminated.

The boos returned earlier this year, when Reigns was unveiled as number 30 much to the chagrin of those in attendance in San Antonio. It has long been rumoured that the WrestleMania 34 main event will see Reigns take on Brock Lesnar, and this is how WWE gets there. Reigns wins the Royal Rumble, before defeating 'The Beast Incarnate' at the 'Showcase of the Immortals'.

Is it going to be a popular decision? Absolutely not. Putting The Shield back together has seen fans return to cheering Reigns, but that is only temporary. No matter how desperately WWE wants it to be the case, the audience isn’t going to accept Roman Reigns as a babyface megastar.

That won’t change the result in Philadelphia on 28 January however.
