10 Potential WWE WrestleMania 31 Opponents For Stone Cold Steve Austin

2. Hulk Hogan

Maybe it's the most implausible match on this list, but it could also potentially be the most lucrative for Stone Cold. Austin turned down matches with Hogan before WrestleMania XVIII and XXII because he didn't think the resulting bout would have been something of which he could be proud, and because he had no interest in dealing with Hogan's politicking. Today, Hogan may be less likely to be able to connive his way to a win, but a match between a 50-year-old and a 61-year-old isn't winning any awards from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Hogan may not even be able to compete -- he was initially banned from any action in a WWE ring after his physical, but he claims to be in better shape and has guaranteed more matches in his future. Still, one only need look at my "Top 9 Biggest Liars In Wrestling History" Article to get an idea about the validity of the average Hulk Hogan claim. Even today, though, there's something about the idea of Hulk Hogan versus Steve Austin that's impossible to deny. Maybe it's the fact everyone has an allegiance -- some of us are die-hard Hulkamaniacs, while others remember how Austin came up in the late 90s and suddenly made everything Hogan stood for seem decidedly uncool. It could be the fact that the winner could be touted as the true biggest star in wrestling history. More likely, though, it's just the magical idea of seeing the two legends lock up -- something we had reason to believe would never happen. I'd plop my money down for that.
