What a way to go out.

The first four months of Daniel Bryan's 2021 included stunning matches against everyone from Cesaro and Jey Uso, to Edge. Naturally, golden boy Roman Reigns was involved in the latter as well, and you should definitely rewatch their Triple Threat from WrestleMania 37 ASAP.

Bryan saved his best for last though. On the 30 April edition of SmackDown, he lost a career-ending bout vs. Reigns. Their 27-minute epic was one of the best WWE matches of the entire year, and it even managed to set the scene for Cesaro's coming Universal Title challenge too.

Post-match, Roman continued his assault as Jey Uso tied Cesaro up in the ropes. Meanwhile, Bryan sold Reigns' attacks face down on the canvas and didn't even stir. His unconscious body was the last thing fans tuning into the episode saw before cameras faded to black.

Bryan left WWE on 4 May, and took some time out of wrestling before inking a deal with AEW.
