10 Pro Wrestlers Accused Of Heinous Crimes

5. Dick Slater

"Dirty" Dick Slater was a Southern wrestling mainstay, first in the Georgia territory and then in the Mid-Atlantic. He found great success early in his career, capturing many titles and feuding with the likes of Wahoo McDaniel and Ric Flair. He continued to be a high-profile star into his 40s, wrestling for WCW as part of The Stud Stable, where he teamed with Bunkhouse Buck to defeat Harlem Heat for the World Tag Team Titles. Like so many of his contemporaries, though, Slater was plagued by substance abuse issues.

In late 2003, Slater attacked his ex-girlfriend, Theresa Halbert, with a butcher knife, stabbing her in the arm, back, and leg. He was immediately arrested, then convicted in June of 2004. In an interview, Slater claimed that he was under the influence of morphine and Oxycontin when the events in question occurred, and that he had no memory of what happened between him and Halbert -- he only regained consciousness in the hospital the following day. He was sentenced to a year of house arrest, forced to pay $18,000 in restitution, and ordered to keep away from Halbert.
