10 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit About WrestleMania 33

2. Casual Fan Focus

WrestleMania is best enjoyed at arm’s length. While the event has staged plenty of classic matches throughout the years, it has always been more about the spectacle than the action. WrestleMania III’s Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant main event was an atrocious match, but Hogan’s bodyslam is one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history, and a perfect embodiment of everything 'Mania stands for.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, but WrestleMania just isn’t built for hardcore technical wrestling addicts. The pay-per-view is all about drawing the biggest audience possible, and that means stacking the deck with as much nostalgia, showmanship, and light entertainment as possible. Everything else is secondary, and by accepting this, the PPV becomes a whole lot more enjoyable.

'Mania is for the casual fans, and that’s why we get things like The Rock squashing Erick Rowan in six seconds. Such spots are designed to pop those who only tune in a handful of times a year, and with the likes of Hogan rumoured to appear this year, we’ll probably get a few moments of this nature on Sunday. Some will complain, but this is WrestleMania’s nature, and it’s never changing.
