10 Problems With Booking John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam

6. The Fan Interest Is Elsewhere At SummerSlam

When you book a main event as high-profile as this one clearly is, there should naturally be a lot of interest in the fight - at least compared to the rest of the card. Two of the most popular wrestlers of the last 15 years locking horns is indeed a mouthwatering prospect, or at least it should be. However, when you take a quick scan around the likely makeup of the SummerSlam card, the fan interest is going to be across the rest of the card, not Cena vs. Brock. Any potential match involving Roman Reigns is going to be garnering a fair old amount of interest, such is the popularity of the former leader of The Shield. Him locking horns with Randy Orton is likely going to be a number one contenders match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and with Triple H and The Authority taking such a vested interest in Orton, there is likely to be much more drama in that particular field. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose look like finally getting it on at SummerSlam too, after their chaotic evening at Battleground (the feud that just about saved the show, in truth). That will be a bout that fans are desperate to see, meaning Cena and Brock get further relegated in the level of interest amongst WWE fans. Hell, even Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon has an interesting subplot or two to it, and that could be the feud that really does surprise everyone. That's not to say it will be a bigger spectacle than the main event (it clearly won't), but all in all, there is just too much going on at SummerSlam for this title match to be as interesting and relevant to fans as it should be.
