10 Problems With Booking John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam
3. The Result Is Inevitable
When you're booking a huge match for a huge pay-per-view like SummerSlam, the last thing you want is to create a storyline where simply everyone knows what the outcome will be. The beauty of professional wrestling is that we're at the mercy of the WWE in terms of the direction they want to go in - but surely everyone knows what's going to happen at SummerSlam? There's no way the WWE would repeat the chaos of 2012 - where they made one of the worst booking decisions in living memory by having Cena simply destroy Brock Lesnar. After creating his own legacy at WrestleMania XXX by defeating The Undertaker, it's simply impossible to imagine the WWE effectively throwing Lesnar under a train, and have him lose to Cena at SummerSlam. Even Lesnar losing unfairly doesn't really make sense moving forward - he has to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion at some point, and beating Cena is the only logical outcome of this match. Mind you, this is the WWE. The backlash they endured from the whole madness surrounding Batista suggests they aren't afraid to make some brave decisions. But burying Lesnar by having John Cena once against 'rise above adversity' would be a real kick in the teeth for Lesnar's short-term career. If you're lucky enough to find a bookmaker who is laying odds on this match, go heavily with Brock. It's the only realistic option.
