10 Problems With Booking John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam
2. The Way Cena Won The Last Time They Met
When looking at a massive wrestling match, it's sometimes important to go back over the last time the two met. Does it lay an intriguing platform moving forward, and does it whet the appetite for what we are about to see? Think Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania; the first one was so good that we simply couldn't wait to see what was going to happen a year later. However, you can't exactly say the same about John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar. The match at Extreme Rules 2012 was pretty good - largely because of the stipulation attached to it - but it was definitely tainted by an absolutely ludicrous ending. Anti-Cena fans were probably rejoicing at several points throughout the match, as Lesnar absolutely dismantled Cena in his first match back with the WWE for years. Yet somehow, 'Super Cena' managed to rise to the top once again, and pick up a win from absolutely nowhere. It was classic Cena; he got dominated all match yet managed to drop Lesnar at the end without seemingly any effort whatsoever. There was simply no need for Lesnar to get buried like that after such a strong comeback - the pop he received on his first night back with the company was absolutely electrifying (he got a similarly big one when he F5'ed Cena to close the show).Had Cena more than held his own throughout that match and scored the win, it would have almost been tolerable. Again, taking the ending away, the match itself was pretty enjoyable. It was two physical specimens going at it in a brutal manner - and it more than lived up to the name of the pay-per-view. But the ending left a sour taste in everyone's mouth, and completely ruined Brock's return to the WWE. Thankfully they've managed to rebuild Brock and create an outstanding legacy for 'The Next Big Thing' - surely they dare not destroy it again by having him lose to Cena at SummerSlam?
