10 Problems With John Cena Vs. The Undertaker At WWE WrestleMania 32
7. WWE Wouldn't Actually Turn Cena Heel
Alright, alright - even if a Cena heel turn wouldn't be fully accepted in a post-streak world, it would at least signal WWE's intention of finally shaking up the status quo. But do you actually think WWE would dare tread that path? Not when the good guys always stand tall at the end of every house show, not when fans' reactions are doctored on every single SmackDown and and not when babyfaces mustn't sell too much when leaving the arena after taking a beating. It's the same old argument, but John Cena is Vince's chief moneymaker - the breadwinner across the board, in terms of PPV sales, live event tickets, action figures, t-shirts, colourful cereal, and so on. He makes paper, and he does so because he's beloved by children and families. A heel turn would, in theory, ruin this. Sadly, interesting storylines, dramatic character development, and elevating new stars play second fiddle to the big bucks Cena makes - regardless of how secure these alternatives would make WWE in the long run. It's a damn shame, but one that's very unlikely to change.
