10 Problems With John Cena Vs. The Undertaker At WWE WrestleMania 32
4. WWE Wouldn't Be Able To Build A Good Story From Scratch
The fact that the competitors share very little history isn't quite this match's death knell, but it's hard to envisage WWE building an entirely new feud from scratch. The Deadman's second 'Mania bout with Michaels came at the end of one of the greatest angles of the 21st century. The story was utterly compelling, from (then World Heavyweight Champion) Undertaker refusing a rematch, to HBK valiantly failing in the Royal Rumble, to Michaels costing Undertaker his belt at Elimination Chamber, to finally agreeing to put his career on the line. Simply put, Cena and Undertaker cannot hope to enjoy such a dramatic Road to WrestleMania - or even half as compelling an angle. Taker's schedule is far too limited now. It could be argued that some dream matches have gone ahead without a particularly hands-on feud behind them, such as The Rock's era vs. era clashes with Hulk Hogan and Cena himself. However, they relied instead upon either competitor's status as an icon of their separate times. Although Undertaker and Cena must certainly be regarded in that same legendary bracket, they've already co-existed for the entirety of the latter's career. This match would have none of that underlying generational tension.
