10 Problems WWE Caused Themselves With NXT
2. Silly Gimmicks
Vince McMahon has always loved a silly gimmick. At the moment, we’ve got Sami Zayn being neurotic and Bayley having never kissed a boy both of which are part of a not so proud tradition of daftness. However, NXT is not exactly innocent in this matter either, and more than one person has left the developmental brand with a gimmick that was never going to work.
The two poster children for this at the moment are Tyler Breeze and Tye Dillinger. Both men are fantastic workers, but will they ever make it out of the mid card? Dillinger wasn't even on the pre-show at Money In The Bank. A male fashion model and a bloke who shouts ten a lot don’t often get the chance to main event Network Specials.
They’re not alone either. Look back through NXT, and it’s apparent that Triple H and his staff has as much love for the silly as his father-in-law. Bull Fit? Adam Rose? And can anyone see No Way Jose being more than a dancing goon? NXT is supposed to be where wrestlers find themselves and maybe some of these performers are comfortable in these characters. However, if they ever want to make it in WWE, silly gimmicks are not the way to go.
