10 Protests WWE Fans Can Do To Change WrestleMania 31 Main Event

2. #Hashtags

A big story emerging from the Royal Rumble was the power of the hashtag. The term #CancelWWENetwork quickly became the top trend in North America after the Rumble match disappointment. It went on to become a worldwide trend and it defintely created the perception that the Network was in trouble. However, we now know that the Network subscriptions actually went UP around the Rumble. Still, hashtags like #CancelWWENetwork definitely get people within WWE talking. You only need to watch Raw to realise that this is a company obsessed with their perception on social media. While the hashtag didn't hurt business, it certainly created a bad PR representation for the company. Mainstream press picked up the story and stuck the boot in. WWE don't want stories like this in the media. When Time Magazine are reporting how out of touch WWE are with their fanbase it looks bad.
