Returning To The Business

4. What were your thoughts when Shawn approached you to join on with their new school? Did it take much convincing?

I’ve known Shawn a long time, we used to work together in WWE and travel together, so I really like him as a person; he's a good friend.

Not too long ago, he took me to an independent show, and there was only like 25 people there, and most of the fans in attendance were family and friends of the wrestlers. But it was just such a blast to see all those people having a great time, smiling and laughing, and chasing their dreams, even in front of such a small crowd. That’s something that I want to be involved with. I’m perfectly happy with never wrestling again, but I want to be able to help others reach their goals in a positive environment.

3. Women’s wrestling is presented as more legitimate than ever, is that reflected in the independent scene, do you get the sense that more young women are wanting to break into the business?

I know for sure there are. I’ve seen more young girls talking about getting involved, or seen them dress up as their favorite wrestler more so than ever before. The business right now is much more accepting, and based more on athleticism, and talent, which opens up a lot of doors that were closed before. It’s really an exciting time to be involved.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
