10 Questions Stone Cold Must Ask Dean Ambrose On His WWE Podcast
3. Why Do Fans Boo Roman Reigns?
This one may be a bit tricky.
Long story short, ever since WWE began earnestly pushing Roman Reigns as the company's top babyface, fans have hated him. He was originally supposed to win the WWE Title at WrestleMania 31, but he was so unpopular that the company couldn't take the risk. They spent a year getting him ready, and at WrestleMania 32, he was even more unpopular. Still, WWE bit the bullet, delivering one of the most disappointing main events in recent WrestleMania history.
Today, Reigns is more hated than ever, as he's just come back from a Wellness Policy-related suspension. It's impossible to make an argument that Reigns isn't talented - he's had too many good matches for that. So what's the genesis of all the antipathy, as Ambrose sees it?
As a close friend and longtime partner to Reigns - not to mention a star who's actually popular - he may have some valuable insight. Whether he'll share it or not is a different story. Ambrose could tow a company line about fans having fun being heard, or he could defend his friend. A more thoughtful approach could potentially be very interesting, though.
While nobody should expect to see Ambrose criticize WWE's booking (the true culprit here), his proximity to the situation has probably given him a unique perspective that shouldn't be discounted.
