10 Questions With TNA's Ethan Carter III
2. That Match At Wembley With Rockstar Spud
I was in attendance for your match with Rockstar Spud at Wembley Arena and it was one of the most dramatic and compelling matches I’ve seen in a long time, with Spud notably bleeding heavily during the match. Does blood and blading still have a place in wrestling in the 21st century, because it seems to be more and more of a contentious issue as time goes on?
I think it has a place in the right spots, and that was definitely the right spot for it. I think if you see it weekly or even monthly ad nauseum, it’s pointless because there’s no reason for it and no value in it happening. In the story we were telling, especially considering I was wrestling that match with one arm, having a little bell and a whistle helped us to tell that story moreso and really brought out the emotion of his underdog character and the emotion of me being who I am, which is a prick, you know?
[Having] the match with someone who won’t quit, and feeling admiration for him in the process of dismantling him…the whole thing worked out and I’m glad you mentioned it, and I appreciate the compliment. It was definitely a match wrought with emotion that really helped put us both on the map as two guys who were dependent on each other to succeed. We’re both newer in the sense of wrestling in mainstream society, rather than being dependent on veterans, we live and die by our ability to tell a story and I guess we did a good job of it, so thanks.
