10 Quick Fixes To Save The WWE Brand Split

4. Modify David Otunga’s Role

Perhaps the title of this entry should read “remove David Otunga from commentary completely.” I wanted to be a little more forgiving though so instead I’ve suggested just modifying his role in some way—though how exactly I’m not quite sure...

My point is, Otunga isn't quite at the level of his fellow co-commentators. Somehow his delivery just seems a little off, his rhythm not quite what it should be, while his talk of “major keys” is just downright annoying.

This isn’t necessarily a poor reflection on him, he’s just vastly inexperience when compared to JBL and Mauro Ranallo. Still, it does beg the question as to why he was promoted straight to SmackDown without proving himself elsewhere beforehand.

Corey Graves, for instance, established himself as one of the most entertaining commentators on WWE programming with his work on NXT. I’ve heard good things about Otunga’s work on the Raw pre-show, but is that really enough to warrant a step up to the permanent SmackDown announce team?

Perhaps I’m being a little harsh, but I can’t help but heel that both David Otunga and the SmackDown commentary team may be better off if his services were employed elsewhere.
