Last year’s women’s Money in the Bank briefcase winner did not wait long at all to go from underdog to champion.

Nikki Cross had morphed from her undersized, overmatched persona to becoming “almost a superhero,” complete with cape and mask. While this metamorphosis might scream “midcard” to many, it quickly became Ms. Money in the Bank as she raced right by the field to claim the briefcase.

The following night, Nikki ASH cashed in on an injured Charlotte Flair to win the Raw Women’s Championship, kicking off an underwhelming run that lasted a month before she lost it back to Flair.

The cash-in was notable for taking place at the very end of Raw and feeling very rushed as they were clearly running up against a hard stop. Nikki barely had time to celebrate her first singles championship win in WWE before the show went off the air. It’s almost fitting in retrospect when you look at her title reign itself.
