At the first Money in the Bank PPV, Kane won the Smackdown briefcase, defeating a field that included Christian, Matt Hardy, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, and Cody Rhodes. Later in the PPV, Rey Mysterio fended off a challenge from Jack Swagger the MITB winner at Mania that year, whom Rey had defeated for the World Heavyweight Championship a month earlier. No sooner had that match ended then Kane emerged to cash in his briefcase and end Mysterios reign at four weeks.
