10 Radical Ideas To Save WWE Money In The Bank
6. The Developmental Gimmick
Nice and easy, this one: rest the main roster for a year, and transfer the Money In The Bank ladder match to an NXT special event, with the winner receiving a choice… between a main roster contract, or a shot at the NXT Championship.
Depending on the people involved, that could actually be presented as a challenging choice to make. NXT have done a fantastic job of shoring up the importance and credibility of their top title, to the extent that when Kevin Owens confronted John Cena on RAW a year ago - NXT Champion versus United States Champion - it was made crystal clear that the NXT title was worth more than the US title, even though it was a developmental championship.
That would never have happened with the FCW or OVW heavyweight championships. NXT has come in in leaps and bounds as a brand - it’s arguably worth more than Smackdown right now, and it’s not on cable television.
Would Tye Dillinger want a run at the title he’s been eyeing up for years... or a shot at the main roster, with the chance that he’ll fail to impress Vince McMahon like Tyler Breeze and the Ascension and go nowhere? What about Finn Balor - if this happened tomorrow, would he go for one more chance against his nemesis Samoa Joe, or take the main roster opportunity?
Let’s find out.
