10 Reasons Alberto Del Rio's WWE Return Is Failing
8. Too Much Money
WWE has spent an enormous amount of money on luring back Del Rio. A report in October by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that the star could make a minimum of $1.45 million over the course of the next year (although there are other reports that it may be significantly less). Del Rio was making good money in Mexico and on the indies so WWE had to have made him an attractive offer to return. Whatever the figure may be, WWE paying him top dollar will need to be justified in some way. With their financial commitment, WWE has clearly felt forced to book Del Rio as a top-tier performer immediately. He won the United States Championship on his first appearance and competed in the semi-finals of the WWE Championship tournament at Survivor Series. That's a solid start, but there's still a sense that WWE isn't living up to Del Rio's price tag. Unfortunately, they might never manage to. There has simply been too much money invested in Del Rio. It leaves WWE determined to protect him, whilst being unwilling to hotshot him to the very top of the card. The result is the company being caught in a creative no-man's land.
