10 Reasons Alberto Del Rio's WWE Return Is Failing

7. No Feud With Cena

Del Rio returned in blockbuster fashion by beating John Cena cleanly. That's something that very rarely happens in WWE and it positioned Del Rio as an immediate threat to very top stars in the company. In order to cement Del Rio's return as a major star in the company, a feud with Cena would have been the ideal direction to take. Even a single rematch with Mr Hustle, Loyalty and Respect would have done a great deal to consolidate Del Rio's success. Unfortunately, the Cena route was closed to Del Rio as Cena's loss of the United States Championship was designed to allow the company's biggest star a brief period of rest and relaxation, free of television commitments and able to work on other projects for a month or two. WWE has been keen not to draw too much attention to Cena's absence and, as a result, Del Rio has been unable to milk the defeat of Cena in order to get himself over in the way that Kevin Owens has since beating him earlier in the year. With Cena unable to offer a comeback or drop the Mexican aristocrat with an AA, Del Rio has been told to keep schtum and wait for Big Match John to come back.
