10 Reasons Alberto Del Rio's WWE Return Is Failing

5. United States Championship Neglected

Anyone tuning into WWE programming for the first time over the last month or so would be forgiven for asking about the identity of the gold, flag-adorned object dangling from Alberto Del Rio's waist. John Cena had been working tirelessly to elevate the WWE United States Championship through his open challenge matches and had standout bouts on television with countless talents, from Cesaro and Kevin Owens through to Sami Zayn and Neville. Since he dropped the belt to Del Rio, there has been a notably lessened focus on the patriotic title. WWE has clearly lost interest in the US Title now that it has been removed from the waist of the company's franchise star. With the exception of a brief promo christening it "The MexAmerica Championship", Del Rio has barely mentioned the fact that he is the champion. The belt had major shine on it thanks to the exceptional work Cena has put in this year, but WWE is failing to allow that to add shine to Del Rio as he tries to carve out a character on his return. The US Championship should have been used to catapult Del Rio into the upper echelons of the WWE card, but it has instead served as mere window dressing for him instead.
