More wrestling fans have New Japan on their radar than ever before. The far-east promotion is putting on the finest wrestling in the world, and streaming it to the four corners through New Japan World. As big as the summer months are for WWE, summer is when NJPW hit full stride.

Kenny Omega's G1 victory in 2016 caught the attention of western fans, and eyes have been glued on the promotion ever since. Now, NJPW need to show that their past year was not a fluke, by holding a G1 Climax to match, or better, last year's.

While some of the must-see matches (Okada/Omega III) are being saved for the tail-end of the tour, the July matches have some unique pairings. The returning Kota Ibushi will take on Tetsuya Naito in the opener on July 17th. Omega's first bout comes on July 20th against the demonic Minoru Suzuki. He'll then take on fellow Canadian Michael Elgin on the 27th.

New Japan's calendar scarcely features singles affairs; that is until the G1 rolls around, and for two and a half weeks, each performer goes out with the intention of stealing the show. Five-star classics are possible each and every night, and not confined to the main event. Watch some old G1 matches, and get hyped for July 17th.
