10 Reasons The Kane That Debuted In 1997 Is Way Cooler Than Today's

5. The Mask

The mask in 1997 may have been more of an annoyance than today's more open mask but it was also much cooler and effective than the one the Big Red Monster sports today. The mask of yesteryear resembled that of a horror icon. Whether it was Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees, Kane's mask reminded fans of the serial killers they cheered on in cinema and it helped him create a look that was both marketable and struck a chord with fans. The mask has undergone a number of changes since 1997. It has been modified to assist with promos and, in 2003, the mask was eliminated from the equation entirely. While it may be back and it may be more practical for the fast-paced, hard-hitting style WWE fancies today, the mask from 1997 will forever be the one most closely associated with Kane. And for good reason.
