Let’s get into specifics here. It’s hard to even know where to begin when it comes to Angle’s best work in WWE. Looking past Royal Rumble matches, issue one of WhatCulture's Wrestling had him ranked in 9 of the top 100 matches in WWE history. Just think of how many more he would have been in had he remained there his entire career.

Among his classics were his WrestleMania 21 match against Shawn Michaels, which is one of the best in the event’s history. Their follow up at Vengeance was another Match of the Year candidate as well in 2005. He had a phenomenal Iron Man battle against Brock Lesnar on an episode of SmackDown that tested the limit to what two men could deliver on free TV. And at No Way Out 2006, he took on Taker in one of The Dead Man’s best matches ever.

Then there were the technical masterpieces against Chris Benoit that blew away anything else going on in the company at the time. They were dream matches that actually lived up to the hype. It wasn’t just all-star workers that he would excel with either. Angle was able to work with a wide variety of opponents, and somehow was able to bring out the best in them time and time again.

There are countless careers that are better off because Kurt Angle decided to become a professional wrestler, and that is the ultimate compliment to bestow upon any talent.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
