10 Reasons May Is The Most Cursed Month In WWE History

3. Triple H Tears His Quad - May 21st 2001

Triple H was the WWF's best wrestler for the year 2000 and was primed for an even bigger 2001. All that changed one fateful night in May when Hunter suffered a devastating quadriceps tear which would keep him out the rest of the year. It was a freak occurrence, The Game was tagging with Steve Austin against Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho when his leg gave way. Excruciatingly you can see his complete muscle rupture up his leg if you slow the footage right down. Showing his toughness, Hunter finished the match, even taking Jericho's 'Walls of Jericho' submission manoeuvre on the leg. He was then carried backstage where he had to face up to the fact he would now miss a year of action. It was a huge blow for the WWF, one of the worst instances of a top star going out injured. The fact that the Attitude Era died in this period is partly down to Hunter's absence, the company had just lost The Rock to Hollywood and Austin was less effective in his new heel role. Vince really could have done with Triple H.
