The man certainly doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, that's for sure. Many wrestling fans dislike the "goofy" John Cena... the one who cuts the joke-filled promos when the fans feel he should be more serious in kayfabe... but the fact that he's willing to put himself in situations like that says it all. Compare him to someone like, say, The Undertaker, who is far too protective of his "image" to put himself in too many odd situations (not even participating in post-show dark match segments like when he was pranked into trying a Spinaroonie one night), or someone like Bret Hart, who has never shown himself capable of having much of a sense of humor. That's one of the things that helps Cena stand out. People like to poke fun at him for the gaudy clothing he wears to the ring, and for his affinity for wearing "jorts", but he's a grown man with two working eyes... he knows what he looks like. He simply doesn't care. He's not doing it to impress adults and the vocal minority of wrestling fans. He's doing it because the younger members of the WWE Universe love him and his merchandise, and they continue to get their parents to buy it all up. That's the part that a lot of his detractors seem to be forgetting about. They feel that because they don't want to buy a bright green, orange, yellow, red, etc shirt, it means that the shirts are "stupid" or "pointless". No, what makes WWE merchandise "stupid" or "pointless" is if nobody is buying it. There are just as many "ugly" shirts from WWE that are black, but again, if they're selling, that's the only thing that really matters.
