10 Reasons The 1990 Royal Rumble Is The Best Of All Time

7. A Stacked Roster

While I’m on the subject of how many stars were involved at the start, was this the most stacked Rumble ever?

This is an honour that many also bestow upon the 1992 edition of the match, but the 1990 version could well trump it once again. The 30 men who entered the bout are a veritable who’s who of classic WWF. If ever there was a match that was all killer and no filler, it was this.

Okay, that isn’t entirely true: the Red Rooster appeared, after all. The Powers of Pain, Hercules, Dino Bravo and Akeem didn’t exactly set the world alight, either. Their lack of magnitude only comes next to the immense stars that filled out the rest of the match, though.

More than 50% of the combatants in the match have gone on to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and two-thirds won a title at some point during their tenure in the company - arguably when it meant the most. The legends mentioned in the previous point were joined by André the Giant (his final Rumble), Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, Shawn Michaels and more.

This was a star-filled Rumble, to say the least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
