10 Reasons Why 2022 Is Already Wrestling's Most Insane Year EVER

6. Seth Rollins Namedropping Jon Moxley

“[The Usos] are the ones who raise you up, just like me and Mox did in The Shield.”

*insert screeching halt sound here* Yes, Seth Rollins actually said that on the 21 January episode of SmackDown. He didn't use WWE's Dean Ambrose name, but plumped for Jon Moxley's current moniker instead. That wasn't only unexpected, it was massive.

This is something else that McMahon would never have allowed several years ago. The WWE boss has had wrestlers and announcers alike float through performances blissfully ignorant of the pro wrestling world around them. There is no other wrestling, and WWE is the only show in town.

Not anymore, it seems.

Rollins mentioning The Shield and Moxley's part in it is one thing. Him using a current AEW star's name to promote his match vs. Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble is next level. Who thought they'd hear "Mox" out loud on WWE programming in 2022?! Nobody, that's who.
