10 Reasons Why DDP Was The Original People’s Champ Of Wrestling
2. A Work Horse
It’s been said by several wrestlers over the years that DDP was the hardest working man in wrestling during the 90s. When those words come from the notoriously hard-working “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, you know you have a true work horse on your hands.
When DDP first entered the ring in WCW, time was not on his side. At the tender age of 35, Page is one of the oldest rookies to ever enter a nationally televised wrestling organisation. To put that into perspective, Steve Austin was just four years older when he retired from the ring for good.
Hell-bent on learning the ropes, honing his craft and generally getting better at the sport he loved so much, Page would spend hours in the WCW Power Plant (a forerunner to WWE’s Performance Center) attempting to improve his skills as a performer.
Way before video analysis became an integral part of sporting competition, DDP would ask his fellow wrestlers and road buddies to film his matches so he could study his form and critique his own work after the fact. This practice itself is carried out at the WWE Performance Center today.
Defying the odds and striving to overcome adversity, DDP is the living embodiment of someone achieving greatness through determination.
