7. Self-Seriousness

This point applies more to old-school WWF than Vince Russos late-90s Attitude Era, but wasnt wrestling a lot more entertaining when it didnt take itself so seriously? With the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior and so on spouting absurd catchphrases, and coming out to cheesy music, it appealed to our inner child, yet as an adult, is still amusing to rewatch. The current product, with its focus on more realistic storylines, is also pretty forgettable and certainly less enjoyable for younger viewers. Few are going to hold wrestling storylines up on a pedestal of emotional authenticity and deft storytelling, so why not try and have a little silly fun with it? Admittedly in a post-Benoit WWE which has distanced itself from brutality and such there is a slow move back towards this, but balance is difficult, as their rigid insistence on WWE-PG is not a much more desirable path.
