5. The Potential Rivalries
The story goes that to persuade a reluctant Bret Hart to turn heel, Vince McMahon showed “The Hitman” two lists. One showed Bret the opponents he could face if he remained a smiling babyface hero. The other listed the rivalries that awaited should he agree to turn to the dark side.
Let’s pull a similar trick with Drew and see how it feels. Does anyone reading this really fancy a lengthy feud between Drew and Happy Corbin? McIntyre and Sheamus are an ever reliable pairing but they’ve worked each other a lot of late. Drew also worked a recent feud with Jinder Mahal. That’s a thing that happened, which is about the best thing you can say about it.
There’s always Roman Reigns of course, but it’s hard to extract the drama from Roman’s vice like grip on the Universal Title. Surely Drew would be much more excited by potential feuds with the likes of Cesaro? Or he could tangle with Shinsuke Nakamura for the intercontinental strap. After last Friday’s demonstration of their chemistry, it would be great to see Drew and Ricochet extend their open challenge match into a full blown feud.
Any of those three at least has the benefit of being fresh as a bare minimum. On top of that each of them is capable of working an absolute banger with “The Scottish Psychopath” given the opportunity. Speaking of Bret Hart…
