10 Reasons Why WWE Must Turn Drew McIntyre Heel Immediately
4. The Bret Hart Precedent
Drew McIntyre has made no secret of his desire to bring a WWE PPV to UK shores. Indeed there have been indications that this will come to pass in the not too distant future. This could give WWE a chance to revisit one of the most exciting moments of their illustrious past.
Back in the '90s, Bret Hart had turned heel on the American fans but his fellow countrymen never lost faith in “The Hitman.” In Canada, Hart and his Hart Foundation stablemates were received as national heroes, even though only two of them were actually Canadian.
The reaction Hart and company received at 1997’s In Your House: Canadian Stampede is mind blowing. There were pops so huge the hard camera began to shake.
Drew McIntyre isn’t a Bret Hart-level national treasure in the UK, but WWE’s first British champion certainly has a lot of supporters that side of the pond. Drew has been talking up his Scottish roots on TV and in interviews as well. He could even team with Ridge Holland and Sheamus (an Irishman but every bit as British as Davey Boy Smith was Canadian).
Get the right babyface to do just enough to subtlety wind up the Brits watching at home and they could be persona non-grata against the local guy by the time a PPV lands on UK soil. Who wouldn’t want to create some of that Hart Foundation magic?
