WWE are all too aware of how their ageing main roster is perceived, with a drive to recruit younger talent in full force at the Performance Centre. Some of these young guys are already making waves on NXT 2.0 but it surely won’t be long until a few of them are promoted to the main roster. After all, what’s the point of hiring all these kids just to let them go ahead and age while still stuck in developmental?

Part of what helped fans gravitate towards Drew was his first, failed run in the company. When WWE let him go he didn’t give up on his dream. Instead he worked his ass off on the indie scene, proving himself time and again around the world and working his way back to the world’s biggest promotion.

That true story paints Drew as a guy who was humbled but worked hard, earning and deserving his current success. Look at the narrative from another perspective however and it could form the basis of “The Scottish Psychopath’s” new heel persona.

From heel Drew’s purely kayfabe perspective, he was the guy who was cruelly spurned by the company. He wasted some of his best years in the wilderness and now younger, fresher guys are coming in, having success handed to them and leapfrogging him to championship gold? Not if he can possibly help it…
