10 Reasons WWE Fans Need To Realise Dean Ambrose Is Not Main Event Talent

Sometimes comparisons to all-time greats can be incredibly flattering. Others, though, can be unfavorable, leading to heightened and unrealistic expectations. Such is the case with Ambrose, who has been repeatedly compared to two of the great wrestlers of the 1990s: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and "Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman.

The Austin comparison comes from his anti-authority tendencies. He has commandeered large vehicles and driven them into arenas, not unlike the Texas Rattlesnake. His unpredictability and willingness to stop at nothing to stick it to his opponents is very Austin-like and both fans online and commentators on-air have made the comparisons, regardless of the fact that he is nowhere near Austin, be it in popularity or creativity.

Ambrose's Lunatic Fringe character creates comparisons to Brian Pillman, whose "Loose Cannon" persona made him one of the most compelling characters during the second-half of the 90s. The primary difference between the two was that Pillman came across legitimately crazed, a very real loose cannon whose antics were unpredictable.

Ambrose, on the other hand, comes off as a caricature of what a lunatic would be like in the world of pro wrestling.

Far too often, Ambrose is cartoonish in his antics, holding him back from being accepted seriously in the role of main event antihero.
