10 Reasons WWE Fans Should Be Worried About The Women’s Revolution
5. Saudi Shows
WWE’s commitment to vast amounts of Saudi Arabian money flies in the face of their attempts at progressiveness.
They may have had women headline WrestleMania but women are still very much personae non gratae at events the company are happy to bill, however vaingloriously, as WrestleMania’s equal.
Natalya and Alexa Bliss made the trip for Super Showdown but weren’t allowed to wrestle once they got to Jeddah. The one woman who was allowed to both attend and appear on camera, Renee Young, was swathed in layers of material in oppressive heat.
There are several strong arguments to be made that these simply shouldn’t be happening at all. Nonetheless these biannual Saudi Arabian jaunts look set to continue and if WWE are serious about the women’s revolution, they need to try harder to get the Saudi Sports Authority to let women on the card. Getting them on the plane isn’t good enough.
