10 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 1992 Is Still The Best
5. A Very Early Shawn Michaels
It's strange to think that Shawn Michaels had only been a singles wrestler for about two weeks when he entered the 1992 Royal Rumble.
As part of The Rockers tag team alongside Marty Jannetty he'd been exhibiting his quick, high impact style for a few years in the WWF. This was until January 12th 1992 when Shawn decided to send Marty flying through a glass window in order to confirm that his days of being a cocky heel had truly begun. The Shawn Michaels that walks through the curtain on this night is at the very early stages of finding a character that would go on to be called 'Mr WrestleMania' and it's a fascinating watch. Gorilla Monsoon calling his superkick 'a crescent kick' being a particular moment as the term 'Sweet Chin Music' is far from being mentioned.
He might not win the match itself (but that's going to happen a couple of years later) but at one point he shares the ring with both The British Bulldog and Ric Flair. HBK would have significant matches with both men in the future as he won the European Title from Bulldog in 1997 and retired Ric Flair (from WWE at least) at WrestleMania in 2008.
