10 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 1992 Is Still The Best
4. The First Example Of 'Double Duty'
There are quite a few examples of wrestlers appearing in matches on the Royal Rumble undercard before entering the Rumble match itself on the same night. It was mostly prevalent in the mid nineties when the WWF didn't have quite the roster depth they enjoy today. Here though one man is pulling double duty and there's an intriguing possibility wrapped around it.
Earlier on in the evening 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper had won his first title in the WWF by beating The Mountie for the Intercontinental Title. Despite being a part of the WWF since 1984 and being a major part of the first WrestleMania this title was actually Piper's first belt in the company. As he enters the ring exactly halfway through the match at number fifteen he becomes the only participant in the match who could walk out of the building at the end of the night with both titles. The very idea of Piper holding both belts high at the end of the show was something of a tantalising prospect.
Sadly it's not something that came to pass as Piper never held the big one in the WWF. After over thirty minutes in the match he was eliminated by Sid Justice. This did mean however that he went on to defend his Intercontinental title in a classic match against Bret Hart at WrestleMania VIII so it worked out for the best in the end.
