The decision to hold SummerSlam in Brooklyn was always going to result in a smarky, ultra-critical crowd - one eager to overlook traditional face/heel dynamics and pour their scorn on "good guys" such as John Cena and Roman Reigns. The WWE aren't new to such situations; they've used such crowds to their advantage at past shows such as One Night Stand 2006 and Money In The Bank 2011. Unfortunately, they didn't handle the unique environment too well this time around. The fact that the two biggest matches on the card suffered from screwy finishes was never going to please a smart crowd, especially to cap off a gruelling four hour show. Although they made a fair bit of noise, and came up with an inventive chant or two (especially "Roman's sleeping"), they were also noticeably quiet during some crucial stages of the night - especially the finish of the main event. Ultimately, the WWE should have recognised the nature of their live audience, and adjusted their booking accordingly. It's worked in the past, after all.
