7. His Lack Of Character Development
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI-JO0v0zgk Almost four years ago to the day, when Alberto Del Rio made his debut on Smackdown, his character made an immediate impact with fans. He was an arrogant, overtly wealthy heel, who drove to the ring in expensive cars to the sound of his very own obnoxious ring announcer. He talked about his "destiny" being to win WWE gold but youyou already knew that. First, the rich aspect was dropped. He just kind of stopped talking about it. OK, but then he won a title and fulfilled his so-called "destiny", so that was that done. The expensive car driving was ditched too, so there's that gone. There was also a brief program with his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, turning on Del Rio and siding with Rob Van Dam for some reason. So he's gone too now. What's left? Quick, describe Alberto Del Rio's character. Don't think about what his character was when he joined WWE, think about what it was, say, three months ago. There's not much there, right? He was a guy who did an arm breaker submission. He spoke Spanish sometimes to remind you to not like him, because that's a thing for some reason. Also, he wore a scarf. So, a sometimes Spanish speaking scarf guy who doesn't like arms. Believe it or not, that wasn't enough for the main event.
