10 Reasons WWE Wants You To Forget 2001

3. The Trish Stratus 'Bark Like A Dog' Segment

Almost immediately after it happened, this particular segment became one of the most controversial in WWF/WWE history. In the Spring of 2001, the company were working towards WrestleMania X-Seven, the biggest show of the year. An ongoing story was between Trish Stratus and Vince McMahon, who had been using the blonde Diva to display his power and influence. Over time, McMahon grew bored of his play thing, and decided to teach her a lesson. Inside the ring, Vince revelled in embarrassing Stratus, forcing her to first strip most of her clothes, then crawl around the ring barking like a dog. Obviously, the skit was purely there to further the idea that McMahon was a chauvinist and a complete pig, but it also raised the ire of many people watching. A lot of folks felt the angle was in poor taste, and it has become infamous. During Linda McMahon's run for senate, the clip was used against her multiple times. It's a divisive segment, but it's definitely one that WWE would rather people ignored today. Sadly for them, that doesn't seem likely, as even Trish herself is routinely asked about it during media appearances.
