10 Reasons WWE's Cruiserweight Division Isn't Working

7. Casual Fans Don't Like Wrestling

The previous point comes from a bigger issue with WWE and the way we view it. There is a reason Chris Jericho is a bigger name than Lance Storm, why Eddie Guerrero was a bigger star than Dean Malenko, and why Legion of Doom succeeded where Furnas & LaFon failed: the casual WWE fan isn't really interested in professional wrestling.

That isn't to say they don't care, of course not, but the men and women who make up the bulk of the audience are more interested in personality and promo as opposed to 'ranas and wrist-locks. Ric Flair is always going to be a bigger star than Tully Blanchard or Arn Anderson, and it is all down to his style.

The men who make up the cruiserweight division on RAW are all tremendous professional wrestlers, but being good at the technical stuff doesn't mean success in the eyes of the industry leader.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
